I give 5 stars for Wholesale Hunter’s customer service and price.
The Rough Rider is an inexpensive plinker thats an appropriate “Kit Gun”. I bought it to toss in my “Crash Pack” that I keep in my truck. It’s a pack with things I need whenever I get stuck some where and need to spend a night out in the open (I am a geologist). I don’t expect to use it for self-defense, but it certainly will fill that role in the highly unlikely case that its ever needed. The fact that it’s a .22 LR/WMR combo makes it useful for both self defense as well as something I can use if I just have the urge to amuse myself by plinking. Until then, it will sit in the pack with a thin coat of gun grease, a few boxes of ammo and a trigger lock.
I tend to work in areas where self-defense is a real issue. After decades of casting about, I now carry .22 for self defense. I do so because I put about 10,000 rounds through my Ruger Single Six each year - and its better to hit with a small cal than miss with a big one. I would never purposely rely upon a Heritage of any model for defense. But in a pinch, its better than a sharp stick.
At $150 this is the perfect kit gun- if stolen or damaged by rust, its no great loss.
If you want a decent .22 revolver - go with a Ruger Single Six in stainless.
