To paraphrase the famed film director John Ford, ”If this isn’t the way the old west six guns were, it’s the way they should have been!’ Firearms buffs have often wondered why the single action was never produced in the 19th century with the grips of the double-action Thunderer ® revolvers. Now you can have the best of both worlds, in four handsome and practical barrel lengths. The compact 3 1/2-incher is a superb carry single-action. This mating of two popular frontier six-shooters has given birth to one of today’s most sought after single action wheel guns!” - Phil Spangenberger -

The 44 Special (44 S&W Special) was developed by Smith & Wesson in 1907 and introduced in their New Century revolver in 1908. Bullet diameter is .429. The original load used a 246-grain bullet at 755 feet per second, slow but hard-hitting and2350 with an excellent reputation for accuracy. The 44 Special has continued in production and has recently seen a resurgence in popularity. 44 Special ammunition can be safely used in 44 Magnum revolvers for low-recoil practice. — Craig Boddington
