The US 1841 was manufactured at Harpers Ferry from 1846 to 1855, originally in .54 caliber, though many were later modified to .58 caliber. Used by both sides during the Civil War. Officially known as the Model 1841 U.S. percussion rifle, this firearm became known as the Mississippi Rifle when it was used by a regiment of Mississippians commanded by Jefferson Davis during the Mexican War. N/SSA approved. Fullstock, American walnut with satin finish. 44" length with a 2 ¾" drop. 14" trigger pull. Barrel is .58 caliber, browned 33" length. Tapered round – 1.100 at breech to .875 at muzzle. Broach rifled .004" deep with a 1 in 72" twist. 3 lands - .580 & 3 grooves - .586. Front sight is brass blade and rear sight – steel, open style, 5/16" dovetail. Ignition percussion, musket size caps. Features brass furniture , single trigger. Color casehardened lock and hammer. Lock engraved with eagle over US ahead of hammer & Harpers Ferry 1847 on tail. Two barrel bands (double strap front). Blued steel sling swivels. Barrel marked VP with eagle head. Overall length 48 5/8” and weighs 9 ½ lbs. Recommended load 60 grains of FFG, .570" round ball, .040" patch (or) .575" minie ball. Manufactured by Pedersoli in Italy.
