The original .44-40 Win (.44WCF) use a .427" bullet and new .44-40win die sets come with an expander for .427" all current revolvers and rifle reproduction guns are manufactured with a .429" grove diameter. Using .427" bullets in barrels that are .429" will cause accuracy issues. Many hand loaders today are getting better results using .429" however this requires a .428" expander die. Thanks to Hornady we have this die for that purpose.
