Franklin Armory is pleased to introduce the all new F 17-L, the first ever gas operated semiautomatic rimfire chambered in 17 Winchester Super Magnum! With its debut at SHOT SHOW 2014, the early reception of this design has been very positive. The F 17-L features a custom designed gas piston system with a rotating locking bolt that is very similar to the original Eugene Stoner design. The gas piston action is far safer and more reliable than the traditional blow back designs because the 17 WSM produces 33,000 PSI. In fact, the velocity of the 20 grain 17 WSM load is very comparable to the XM855 round for the 5.56 NATO. For many varmint hunters, this rifle is a dream come true. The 17 WSM provides low recoil, low cost ammunition with devastating ballistics in a handy semi-automatic configuration. Even better, Franklin Armory only had to adapt the barrel, bolt carrier group, buffer, and magazine when designing the F 17-L to chamber the 17 WSM. Since the majority of the F 17-L components are based on the traditional AR style platform, users will benefit from the extensive aftermarket options available.

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 17 Winchester Super Magnum is the fastest rimfire cartridge--ever! Introduced by Winchester in 2013, it isn't based on any previous sporting cartridge. Instead, it's based on a .27-caliber rimfire blank used for driving nails! Thicker case walls enable it to withstand higher pressures, and it pushes a 20-grain bullet at 3000 feet per second and a 25-grain bullet at 2600 fps. In terms of capability it falls almost exactly between the rimfire 17 HMR and the centerfire 17 Hornet, obviously an extremely viable 200-yard cartridge for smaller varmints. The rimfire case is not reloadable, so it offers a viable and economic mid-range alternative for varmint shooters who don't handload. Initially a joint venture between Winchester and Savage, 17 Winchester Super Magnum rifle offerings now include Ruger, Browning/Winchester, and others. — Craig Boddington
