P556 Pistol features a 10” button rifled barrel, chambered in 5.56mm NATO, with a twist rate of 1 in 7”. The flash suppressor uses a standard .5 x 28 TPI thread pattern, ensuring compatibility with after-market accessories. The optional flip up front combat sight is adjustable for windage, rear for elevation. The receiver is made of high strength steel with a durable wear-resistant Nitron® finish. The Picatinny rail features a SIG SAUER® Mini Red Dot sight that works in concert with the optional front combat sight. The trigger housing is machined from an aircraft grade aluminum alloy forging with a hard-coat anodized finish designed to survive extreme conditions. The pistol comes equipped with a smooth two-stage trigger, ambidextrous safety and is designed to accept standard AR magazines. The pistol ships standard with (1) 30-round magazine (item# P556-10B-S-MR) or the state compliant model with (1) 10 round magazine (item# P556-10B-S-MR-10). The P556 is compatible with M16/AR-15 type magazines.

Introduced in 1964, the 223 Remington is the civilian version of the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. Although very similar to the 222 Remington it has a slightly longer case and a shorter neck, giving it greater powder capacity and thus higher velocity--which was necessary to meet military penetration requirements at longer range. NOTE: 223 Remington ammunition may be safely fired in any 5.56x45mm chamber, but 5.56x45mm ammunition SHOULD NOT BE USED in a 223 chamber! Standard is a 55-grain bullet at 3240 feet per second, with lighter bullets somewhat faster and heavier bullets a bit slower. The 223 is the most popular 22 centerfire today, and possiby the most popular centerfire cartridge. Ammunition choices are legion, as are choices in firearms. The 223 is an accurate cartridge ideally suited for varmint hunting out to beyond 300 yards, and with heavy-bullet loads designed for the purpose is used effectively by many deer hunters. — Craig Boddington
