The information below comes from our Gun Caliber Dictionary and is for
general reference only. It does not describe the specifications of this
particular item.
The 9.3X74R was developed in Germany in about 1900. A rimmed cartridge intended for use in double rifles and single-shots, the 9.3X74R has a long, slender case of 2.9409 inches. In Europe it has long been a standard cartridge in lightweight doubles, both side-by-side and over/under. With a 286-grain bullet at 2360 fps it is a powerful cartridge that is popular for driven boar hunting. It makes the legal minimum for dangerous game in most African jurisdictions, and although extremely minimal for elephant it is adequate for Cape buffalo. Performance of the 9.3X74R is identical to the 9.3X62mm, and both cartridges are now readily available in the U.S.
