Despite the SIG SAUER P224 lesser size, this handgun maintains a double-stack magazine. With a capacity of 12 rounds of 9mm and 10 rounds of .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) or .357 SIG, the SIG P224 has a decided advantage over most subcompact competitor pistols. For even a higher round count on the magazine, the newer model P229 magazines can also be used for the extra advantage.
Featuring a lightweight alloy frame on every P224 handgun, the P224 will be available in a different number of configurations. The initial models of the SIG SAUER P224 will be available with the DAK (Double-Action Kellerman) trigger and be chambered in the calibers of .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) and.357 SIG Traditional DA/SA (Double-Action/Single-Action) triggers, and the 9mm options will be available in the future.
To combat the challenge of most subcompacts, SIG SAUER uses the full-size SIGLITE Night Sights to allow the P224 to deliver pinpoint accuracy. The new P224 Subcompact, a Classic SIG SAUER with one small change, is the ideal concealed carry or back-up gun. The SIG P224 is an excellent choice for those familiar with the SIG SAUER feel. The controls and operations of the P224 series remains the same as on other SIG SAUER models.
The P224 also accepts newer P229 magazines. This allows users or shooters to carry a full-size, spare magazine as a backup; or for the flush-fit magazine, the magazine of the P224. Many shooters and law enforcement officers will appreciate the option of carrying separate magazines; either for a larger capacity hold or solely for their backup guns. The SAS (SIG Anti-Snag) model of the P224 features a de-horned frame and slide, and the new ergonomically enhanced one-piece polymer grip. SIGLITE Night Sights will be standard in the Nitron coated slide. The short-reset trigger (SRT) will be available in the DA/SA (Double-Action/Single-Action) version.

Caliber Dictionary
The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
Introduced in 1994, the 357 SIG is a rimless cartridge for semiautomatic handguns created by necking down the 40 S&W case to take a 9mm (.355-inch). Gains in velocity--and thus penetration--without dramatic increase in recoil are significant, with a 115-grain bullet at 1500 feet per second and a 125-grain bullet at 1350 fps. The 357 SIG has been adopted by some law enforcement agencies, but has not yet become a popular sporting cartridge. It is available from most major handgun ammunition manufacturers. — Craig Boddington
