USA based, Magnum Research, Inc. (MRI) has once again expanded their Magnum Lite® rimfire rifle product line with the introduction of the MLR Ultra 22LR with a high-tech modular tensioned-type barrel.

The modular barrel means that it has been constructed utilizing a superior quality of steel for the barrel which is attached to stainless steel breech and muzzle caps inside a thin-walled aluminum construction. The Ultra barrel took over a year to develop internally at Magnum Research and was extensively tested utilizing a variety of ammunition. When tested for accuracy against similarly constructed barrels, the Ultra barrel outshoots them significantly. Part of the reason for this is the patented heat sink located strategically inside the Ultra barrel itself.

The MLR22ATU measures 36-1/8” in length and weighs just 4 lbs. 8 oz. Barrel length is 18”. Features include 1 in 16 twist, Bentz chamber, ambidextrous thumbhole stock design with a comb designed for scope use, integral Weaver type scope mount base on the receiver, extended magazine release, swivel studs and checkering on the palm swell grip. The length of pull is 13-5/8”. The barrel is black anodized aluminum and has stainless steel breech and muzzle caps. The rifle utilizes the 10/22® trigger group and 10/22® rotary magazines.

The 22 Long Rifle is the world's most popular cartridge, with annual production well into the billions of rounds. Developed in 1887 for blackpowder, it has been loaded with smokeless powder since the 1890s. The 22 Long Rifle is a rimfire cartridge using the .613-inch case developed for the 22 Long, but standard is a heavier 40-grain bullet at 1180 feet per second. .22 Long Rifle ammunition is widely manufactured and varies tremendously, from sub-sonic and match ammunition at lower velocities to lighter bullets at higher velocities, all the way to a 30-grain bullet at 1700 feet per second. With low report, almost no recoil, and superb accuracy the 22 Long Rifle has no equal for short-range target shooting, plinking, and training in both rifle and pistol; and with high velocity hollow-point ammunition is extremely effective for small game and pests out to perhaps 75 yards.
