Leupold's optical engineers have created this radical design that forms a small crescent in the lower radius of the objective lens. This allows the Leupold VX-L to gather large amounts of light with its large objective lens while still mounted very low and close to the barrel for improved accuracy and a more comfortable shooting position. A VX-L with a 56mm objective lens can be mounted as low a regular scope with a 40mm lens.
