Product Summary

Cimarron Rifle From Down Under 45-70, 34" Octagan Barrel, Color Case Hardened Standard Blue Finish, Walnut Stock Md: SH200

Here's a spitting image reproduction of the famed Sharps rifle made famous in the classic western film "Quigley Down Under". If you're looking for a long-range rifle that is just as straight shooting and handsome as Matthew's rifle, then look no further. Cimarron's "Rifle Down Under," replica emulates Quigley's movie Sharps in detail! It features a color cased butt plate, receiver, hammer, lever and the attractive Model 1859 patch box, that accompanies a richly blued, 34-inch octagon barrel, all screws and double-set triggers.

Highlighting this silver screen lookalike, single-shot side hammer long gun is a handsome checkered walnut stock with its pewter-tipped forearm, just like the film's 1870s-style buffalo gun. A German silver blade front sight and a Lawrence-style folding leaf rear sight top off this exquisite .45-90 caliber rifle, making it a firearm you'll be proud to enter into any "bucket" shoot--no matter how far!

For shooters who like the period-type glass optics, you can add a handsome 19th century-style, blued and brass fitted 32-inch, 6 x 3/4-inch Long Malcolm Scope Sight with Sharps-type, heavy-duty base tube mounts, with an adjustable rear mount to increase your chances for those long-range shots. Some gunsmithing will be necessary, however once fitted you'll have a "Sharps shooting" rifle to be envied!

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
Developed by the U.S. government for the trapdoor Springfield, the 45-70 was introduced in 1873, thus among the oldest cartridges still in continuous production. In the hands of the U.S. Army this was the cartridge that really won the West! Although officially replaced as our service cartridge by the 30-40 Krag in 1892 the 45-70 saw service in Cuba and the Philippines. It had long since been a popular sporting cartridge--and remains so today. Using a .458-inch bullet in a rimmed 2.105-inch case, original loadings with 70 grains of blackpowder used a 500-grain bullet for infantry and 405 grains for cavalry. Today's factory loads with smokeless powder are mild due to potential use in the weak trapdoor Springfield action. Standard is a 405-grain bullet at 1330 feet per second, with 300 and 350-grain loads at higher velocity available. The 45-70 was and is widely chambered in single-shots and remains popular in large-frame lever actions from Browning/Winchester, Henry, and Marlin. — Craig Boddington
