Product Summary

The 1886 model, patented by John Browning in 1884 was brought to Winchester’s attention while the two companies were negotiating for manufacturing rights to the 1885 High Wall and Low Wall. The 1886 was to become Winchester’s Big Game repeater, often seeing action in Africa, and became Theodore Roosevelt’s favorite until it ceased production in 1932. Today, original ’86’s in good condition bring a big premium from hunters and collectors. The Cimarron Model 1886 Deluxe aRifle is every bit as strong and accurate as the original at 1/10th the price.

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
Developed by the U.S. government for the trapdoor Springfield, the 45-70 was introduced in 1873, thus among the oldest cartridges still in continuous production. In the hands of the U.S. Army this was the cartridge that really won the West! Although officially replaced as our service cartridge by the 30-40 Krag in 1892 the 45-70 saw service in Cuba and the Philippines. It had long since been a popular sporting cartridge--and remains so today. Using a .458-inch bullet in a rimmed 2.105-inch case, original loadings with 70 grains of blackpowder used a 500-grain bullet for infantry and 405 grains for cavalry. Today's factory loads with smokeless powder are mild due to potential use in the weak trapdoor Springfield action. Standard is a 405-grain bullet at 1330 feet per second, with 300 and 350-grain loads at higher velocity available. The 45-70 was and is widely chambered in single-shots and remains popular in large-frame lever actions from Browning/Winchester, Henry, and Marlin. — Craig Boddington

I bought the Pedersoli 1886 Far West last August. A friend said it is an heirloom gun and is too pretty to be used. He’s right, with the fancy figured walnut stocks and case colored receiver and excellent parts fit, it is a firearm to be passed on to the next generation. I however am a shooter/hunter. Let me say that it shoots as good as it looks Did an excellent job on a nice buck last deer season. Thanks wholesalehunter for offering such a fine product at a great price.

Hello friends, Just received my Pedersoli 1886 45/70 and have to say I was very impressed with the firearm. I have a number of other 45/70s and this one has to be one of the finest looking rifles out there. The stock on it is quite impressive. So nice I plan on purchasing another one. If anyone out there plans on purchasing one of these I can tell you that there will be no disappointments. I am also happy with Wholesale Hunter and there prompt way of handling this sale, GOOD PEOPLE! Anyway anyone wanting a fine firearm this is the one. Randal K
