Beretta® APX RDO .40 Smith & Wesson Semi-automatic Pistol
Built specifically for military and law enforcement operators, the APX has been put through extensive testing and evaluation at the professional end-user level. The result is a pistol that delivers superior performance and ergonomics, classic Beretta durability, a fantastic trigger, and modern modularity.
Utilizing a removable, serialized chassis frame, the APX can be easily modified with replaceable grip frame housings, and is simple to disassemble and maintain. Each APX comes with 3 interchangeable back straps — so whether your hands are big or small, it'll fit beautifully. Aggressive full length slide serrations make slide manipulations easy under any conditions. To accommodate right or left-handed use, the APX’s magazine release button can be easily reversed, and the slide stop is ambidextrous.
The grip texturing hits the sweet spot, offering plenty of friction without shredding your hand. The trigger guard accommodates gloves, and houses a clean-breaking 6-lb. trigger that offers very short, tactile, audible reset. Some nice touches — like a large magazine baseplate for easy manipulation, and a striker deactivator that lets you take it down without pulling the trigger — complete the package, making the APX a full-featured offering that's ready for battle.
The APX RDO model features a slide cut-out that accommodates one of four included red dot optic mounting plates. These plates support Mini-Red Dot Optics from Burris, Trjicon, Leupold, and C-More. Also shipping with the Pistol is a fixed blanking plate that covers the slide cut and allows the pistol to be used without optic mount.

Designed by Winchester and introduced by Winchester and Smith & Wesson in 1990, the 40 S&W was designed as a "compromise" semiautomatic pistol cartridge that would offer more performance than the 9mm Luger (9x19)…but would produce less recoil and allow higher magazine capacity than the 45 ACP. Few compromises in the firearms world have ever worked as well. From a manufacturing standpoint many pistols designed for the 9mm could be re-engineered to handle the larger cartridge; in a short time it has become a standard issue in the law enforcement community. Using a .400-inch bullet of from 135 to 180 grains from a .850-inch cae, the .40 S&W produces up to 1205 fps, and although recoil is greater than the 9mm, it is easier to shoot than the 45 ACP, and its greater velocity and smaller bullet diameter aid penetration.
