Product Summary

Used Ruger Model 96 Ninety-Six Lever Action Rifle In 44 Rem Mag 18” Barrel With Wood Stock

Ruger model 96 in 44 MAG 18” barrel with wood stock.. This is a used gun that is in great / excellent condition. There are light handling marks on the barrel and the stock. The stock does have small dints. This is a leaver action gun that using a 4 round rotary magazin. It has a 1:20" twist rate which allows for heavier bullets to be used, which makes it idea for hunting. There is no manufacture box.

The .44 Remington Magnum 96/44 feeds from a four-round rotary magazine. It does not share magazines with the Ruger 77/44. The action of the 96/44 does not anchor itself directly to the stock with an action screw as almost all rifles do. There is a block on the underside of the barrel that is threaded for the action screw. The stock is attached to the barrel, and the barrel to the action. The rifled barrel has a twist rate of 1 turn in 20", allowing heavy hunting bullets to stabilize. This is relatively rare for .44 Magnum firearms, which usually are rifled at a rate of 1 turn in 38 inches. The 1:20" twist enables the use of 325gr ammunition for hunting large game.

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 44 Remington Magnum (44 Magnum) was introduced by Remington and Smith & Wesson in 1955 in S&W's large-frame Model 29 revolver. Much credit much be given to gunwriter Elmer Keith, who wanted a more powerful revolver cartridge for handgun hunting. Keith had been experimenting with heavy 44 Special handloads, using that cartridge because its brass was heavier than older blackpowder revolver cartridges. The 44 Magnum is essentially a 44 Special case lengthened to 1.285 inches, using the same .429-inch bullet diameter. For many years the world's most powerful handgun cartridge, the 44 Magnum has been proven adequate for all North American big game. Although now surpassed by several big revolver cartridges the 44 Magnum remains a fine hunting cartridge with recoil levels at the limit that many handgunners can deal with. The most common bullet weight is 240 grains, but 44 Magnum loads are available up to 340 grains. The 44 Magnum is widely chambered to handguns and carbines. — Craig Boddington
