Browning's X-Bolt builds on the proven successes of past Browning rifles, and adds numerous improvements. Its adjustable three-lever Feather Trigger system provides a clean, crisp pull with no take-up. The barrel is free-floated by bedding the front and rear of the action for stability and to help maintain barrel to stock spacing for consistent accuracy. A recessed muzzle crown helps protect the rifling from damage. The bolt unlock button works in conjunction with the top-tang safety to provide an added measure of safety, while the 60 degree bolt lift is fast cycling and allows you to work the bolt quickly. The Hunter model is a hard-working, rugged and accurate high-powered rifle. Its low-luster finish on the solid steel receiver and barrel prevents glare and reflection. It has the complete X-Bolt package: crisp Feather Trigger, X-Lock System and a soft Inflex recoil pad. This Eclipse model has a laminate thumbhole stock with a Monte Carlo cheekpiece.

The 270 WSM (Winchester Short Magnum) was introduced in 2001 along with the 7mm WSM as the second and thirds members of Winchester's family of short magnums. It uses short (2.10-inch) case suitable for housing in a short bolt action, and with its short, fat .555-inch base diameter) unbelted case it is an accurate and efficient cartridge. With 130-grain bullets at 3300 feet per second and 150-grain bullets at 3150 it is faster than the 270 Winchester (and delivers more energy)...but but not quite as fast as the 270 Weatherby Magnum. Excellent for deer and mountain game and suitable for elk, it has a significant following and is probably the second-most popular of the several short magnums (after the 300 Winchester Short Magnum). Several manufacturers have chambered rifles, and ammunition is available from multiple sources.
