Size Matters. The Browning 1911-380 combines two of John M. Browning's most lasting innovations – the Model 1911 and the 380 ACP cartridge – into a modern, lightweight pistol. Unlike most ''pocket pistols'' chambered for the snappy 380 ACP cartridge, the 1911-380 is slightly larger to better manage recoil for improved control that makes follow-up shots faster and more accurate. The longer barrel increases bullet velocity for more downrange punch and improved accuracy. The grip is compact, yet is long and wide enough to allow the shooting hand full purchase for added shooting comfort. The single-action trigger offers a light, consistent pull.
Custom grade design and features. In addition to the vibrant Polar Blue Cerakote finish on the slide, this 1911-380 Black Label pistol includes an number of features that enhance the interface between it and the user. These include stippled laminated wood grips, an extended beavertail safety, an ambidextrous extended frame safety, a skeletonized trigger and hammer, textured front and back straps, and steel three-dot combat sights. With these additions, the Black Label 1911-30 is a custom-grade pistol, straight from the factory.

Designed by John Browning, the 380 ACP (9mm Browning Short, 9x17) was introduced by Colt in 1908 and by FN in Europe in 1912. The 380 ACP is much more potent than the 32 ACP and is essentially the world-standard personal defense cartridge for pocket and purse-sized semiautomatic pistols. Bullet diameter is 9mm (.356-inch) with case length of .68-inch. Standard bullet weights vary, but most common are bullets of 85 to 95 grains at velocities from around 900 to 1000 feet per second. More important is recent bullet technology, with modern expanding bullets offering greatly enhanced performance over the full metal jacket bullets of John Browning's day. 380 ACP ammunition is offered by all makers of pistol ammo, and the cartridge is chambered by virtually all makers of small to mid-sized pistols. The 380 ACP is comfortable to shoot in medium-sized pistols, but the smallest 380s currently available can be snappy for inexperienced shooters. — Craig Boddington
