Caliber Dictionary
The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 7mm Remington Magnum was introduced in 1962 in the new Remington Model 700 bolt-action. Gunwriters Les Bowman, Warren Page, and others had been clamoring for a fast 7mm, and the Remington's "Big Seven" was the answer. Except the very similar 275 H&H dates to 1912, and the 7mm Weatherby Magnum to 1944. No matter; the 7mm Remington Magnum was a huge success. Viewed as more versatile, it blew the 264 Winchester Magnum off the market and went on to become the world's most popular "magnum" cartridge. Though since surpassed in this role by the 300 Winchester Magnum, the 7mm Remington Magnum remains a world-standard hunting cartridge, adequate for game up to elk and moose, flat-shooting, and able to achieve meaningful velocities with bullets up to 175 grains--but with less recoil than the fast .30-calibers. Most firearms manufacturers chamber to it, and the selection of factory loads is rich and varied. — Craig Boddington
