Product Summary

Heckler & Koch MR762A1 75th Anniversary Semi-Automatic Rifle 7.62 NATO 16.5" Barrel (1)-10Rd Magazine Tropentarn Camouflage Stock Black Finish

As HK celebrates its 75th anniversary, there is a very limited opportunity to own a piece of our history with our 75th anniversary MR-Series rifles. Only 500 of each of these rifles will be sold. The MR762A1 rifles will be decorated in Tropentarn, the camo pattern utilized by the German armed forces or Bundeswehr. Like its 5.56 mm counterpart, the MR762A1 is a direct descendent of the HK416/417 series, only in a semi-automatic rifle configuration developed for civilian users. The MR762A1 uses a proprietary HK short-stroke gas piston in place of the direct-gas-impingement system found on lesser AR15-style rifles that propels exhaust gas into the upper receiver to operate the action. In the "closed" HK piston system, exhaust gasses never enter the receiver, which means the HK runs cooler, cleaner and more reliably. And when adverse conditions, like dust, sand and mud are introduced, the advantage of the HK system becomes even more drastic. The MR762A1 has a cold hammer forged barrel made from cannon-grade steel, producing a barrel that ensures accuracy, even after firing thousands of rounds. Includes four 10rd magazines.

Caliber Dictionary

The Below Information Has Been Provided From Our Gun Caliber Dictionary And Is Meant For Informational Purposes Only. It Is Not Intended to Describe The Unique Specifications For This Ammunition.
The 7.62X51mm NATO cartridge was adopted by the U.S. in the M14 rifle in 1957. NATO adopted it in the same year, but in other platforms. The 7.62X51mm is essentially a shortened 30-06 case, allowing a more compact action and more compact ammunition at very minor cost in performance. A side benefit--which might not have been anticipated--is improved accuracy because of the greater efficiency of the shorter case. Although 7.62X51mm has been largely supplanted by the 5.56X45mm NATO cartridge in service rifles, it is still widely used by militaries around the world and remains a primary cartridge for light and medium machineguns. Due to its exceptional accuracy it is also a very common cartridge for military sniping at ranges to a bit beyond 1000 yards. The civilian version, the 308 Winchester, was introduced in 1952 while the 7.62X51MM was still in the experimental stages.  — Craig Boddington
