After Russ Kommer makes a knife, he takes it on the next hunting trip he guides and uses it on the heavy skinning of Alaskan moose, caribou and bear. If it works right, feels right, and holds its edge, Russ has another design in his book. If it doesn't, he takes it to his workshop and destroys it. The Signature Hunters started as Kommer customs and survived his field test.
Named after Alaska mountain ranges, the Signature Hunters are simple classic fixed blades, with a full tang blade of 1.4116 stainless steel, high hollow ground and mirror polished to minimize staining and corrosion and to give less resistance while skinning.
Each blade has friction grooves on the spine and its deep finger choil, giving grip and control under the slipperiest conditions.
The dark stained exotic wood scales feature Russ's unusual diagonal split, which also provides additional finger gripping edges. Scales are riveted in place with classic brass rivets. Each knife has a lanyard slot at the butt.
The Kuskokwin Signature Skinner is a full-bellied skinner with a gut hook. When you have big animals to dress out, this is the knife to take along.
Each Signature Hunter comes with a fitted leather sheath. Like the finest custom sheaths, they are made from a single piece of 7 to 8 ounce leather. They are tooled and perimeter stitched with burnished edges.
